An exhibition combining artistic and historical perspectives opens at the Washington County Heritage Center on December 5.

Rick Benson, Sara James and Susan Knapp explore the evolution of stories over time in Figuratively. Whether beginning with a historical snapshot, family photograph or an older painting, each artist moves beyond the original to find expanded stories, new truths and surprises.

“Rick, Sara and Susan each create paintings from unique, historical starting points,” says Heather Rutledge, executive director of ArtReach St. Croix. “Their show is a perfect fit to mark ArtReach’s partnership with the Washington County Heritage Center as we bring this off-site exhibition series to a close.”

ArtReach St. Croix has presented curated exhibitions of work by Washington County artists at the WCHC since it opened in 2021. The art exhibition area will continue to be programmed by the WCHC.

Figuratively will open on Thursday, December 5 at 6-8pm with an artist reception. Everyone is welcome to this casual event to see the work and meet the artists. The exhibition will remain on view through January 25, 2025.

Washington County Heritage Center is located at 1816 Greeley Street S., Stillwater, MN and is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-4pm. WCHC will be closed December 25, 2024-January 1, 2025. The Figuratively exhibition is free to the public; WCHC admission is required for access to other parts of the museum.
