I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be leading four Saturday morning kayak outings on the St. Croix River this summer in partnership with Wahoo! Adventures and Arcola Mills. Please join us for these fun and educational events.
All trips will be based out of historic Arcola Mills, with kayaks, gear, and instruction offered by expert guide Kerri Kolstad. Arcola Mills offers a beautiful and storied setting — and direct access to a part of the river that has limited landings. It’s located about eight miles north of Stillwater.
The mansion at Arcola Mills was completed in 1847, overseeing a busy lumber village centered on a sawmill that is still standing. It’s been restored and is now managed by the Arcola Mills Foundation.
Bring a friend, grandchild, spouse, or on your own, and afterwards, relax with a river view picnic lunch as we continue the conversation. No paddling experience needed.

May 22: Birds Bugs & Blooms
Look for the many birds, flowers, turtles, dragonflies and other insects that all call the river home. Talk about identifying creatures and documenting or journalling your observations.
June 19: River Haikus
Seventeen syllable poems on the St. Croix. We will paddle the Arcola Islands and stop at a couple of locations for inspiration and then create one haiku on the water and one back on shore.
July 24: Slow Poke Paddle
Move at the pace of nature, look closely, wander the waters, soak up the silence and solitude of the St. Croix. We’ll use all our senses!
August 21: History of the Arcola Area
Explore the rich history of a few square miles on the river. Numerous sites spanning hundreds of years are located in this area. Let’s step back in time.
