Via the Zephyr Theatre:
The Zephyr Theatre in Stillwater is proud to present an outdoor performance of “Twelfth Night” Aug. 9-14 nightly at 7:30 p.m. This production of one of Shakespeare’s most well-known comedies will perform at the Bayport Marina on 200 Fifth Ave. S. in Bayport, along the shoreline of the St. Croix River. The cast features professional actors who have performed at theaters such as The Guthrie, The Ordway, Children’s Theater Company and Park Square Theatre.
The play is being performed during a milestone summer. The Zephyr Theatre recently purchased the former Zephyr Depot building near downtown Stillwater for $2.5 million after an intensive year-and-a-half long capital campaign. Now the theater is raising $4 million to renovate the building and add a 330-seat full-scale auditorium by early 2020. Among renovations include a lobby, a bakery and space for theater classes. The effort is to create a performing arts center of professional caliber.
“We can be known as the Guthrie of the East Metro,” said Elissa Cottle, member of the theater’s Board of Trustees.
Meanwhile, to accommodate for bigger-scale productions such as “Twelfth Night,” Zephyr Theatre will still use other spaces to perform certain productions, as it has since 2016 when it began its capital campaign to purchase the depot building.
While “Twelfth Night” is running, interested patrons can also enjoy live performances at the Zephyr Theatre building itself. Starting August 7, the theater will begin its six-night lineup of live performance events. The weekly lineup will feature dancing, live comedy, film events, open mic, live music, live theater and occasional literary readings and story-telling. The complete lineup calendar can be found at www.stillwaterzephyrtheatre.org/calendar.
For “Twelfth Night,” patrons can follow signage to the makeshift seating space, which can be found at the back of the Marina’s onside restaurant Mallard’s. Chairs will be provided but guests are welcome to bring their own blankets. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at the door or online at www.stillwaterzephyrtheatre.org. In the case of rain, patrons can check the theater’s website for updates.
